Biking Ohiopyle and Beyond
There is phenomenal biking to be enjoyed in Ohiopyle and the surroundings. The Great Allegheny Passage, the rail-trail paralleling the Yough River through Ohiopyle State Park, is one of the gems of The Laurel Highlands. It is only a 2% grade, making the miles easy to pedal through and is spectacularly beautiful. You can ride as far as you like! That might be 10 miles or 100. Or even the full ride from Pittsburgh to DC where you get to enjoy the GAP Trail and the C&O canal trail. One of the great rides of this country!

Wilderness Voyageurs Outfitters rents Cannondale Comfort, Mountain and Tandem Bikes and our staff loves to ride! Come to the shop and we'll help you make biking plans for the day. Download an Ohiopyle State Park Map to be ready!
Rail Trail Riding
You can ride upstream or downstream and either way is spectacularly beautiful! You'll pass little waterfalls and streams flowing into the Youghiogheny. Pedal downstream and you can entertain yourselves watching rafters try to navigate the class III waters of the Lower Yough.
Pedaling upstream is a relaxing ride along the mellow waters of The Middle Yough. Ride the 10 miles to Confluence where you can enjoy a riverside lunch. Consider a pedal paddle for the best of both! Ride the trail and river. We'll meet you in Confluence, swapping your bike for a raft.
Mountain Biking
Ohiopyle is growing as a Mountain Bike destination. More trails are getting added to the system and there are even bigger plans than that...but while those plans are still developing, there is plenty of riding to enjoy.
Sugarloaf: Most people that have ridden here, know Sugarloaf. It is a butt-kicking uphill with one heck of a rewarding downhill. Be ready to sweat as you climb, then enjoy dropping back down! It's a goodie. For the less ambitious climber, you can always shuttle to the top to have a blast coming back down.
Sugar Run: A fun single track run that begins at Jonathon Run on the bike trail and climbs to the private boater parking lot at Bruner Run. Watch for stinging nettle in the summer, but other than that, it's a fun ride.
McCune Trail: The newest addition to Ohiopyle's Mountain Biking Trails. From the parking lot of the existing McCune trail head and newly cut trail takes off up the ridge! It'll get your heart pumping as you climb to the top of the ridge. From there is a blast of a ride through some cool rock formations and a fun downhill towards the Lower McCune Trail. Give it a try!
For some incredibly fantastic riding, head south about 1/2 hour to Big Bear Lake in Bruceton Mills, WV. The trails around 7-springs are also a blast. We have some other favorites as well...stop by the shop for the local secrets!

Road Biking
Sensational! Especially if you are a climber. There are great hills and beautiful rides. Feel free to call the shop or stop in for some route suggestions. Keep in mind -there aren't wide shoulders on the local roads and traffic isn't accostomed to bikers on the roads. So ride with care!
